Dice Rolling

Dice are considered by many to be simple toys for determining an outcome ? this couldn?t be further from the truth. They do determine the outcome but they are anything but simple. On the contrary, top casino dice are precision instruments that are carefully created and monitored by the casino itself. Any kind of rough treatment of the dice is frowned upon, and any drops will result in close inspection by the dealer. They must be treated with absolute respect and as such are switched several times in the course of an average casino day.

Dice odds are math and math only and a logical approach will reap informative results. Conventional dice have 6 sides with each side sporting pips ranging from one to six. All opposite sides add up to a total of seven; the side with six pips is opposite the side with one pip, five pips are opposite two pips, and four pips are opposite three pips. As all games are played with two dice there are therefore a total of 6x 6 possible outcomes of the roll with the highest possible outcome being twelve and the lowest possible outcome being two.

From this starting point, working out the chances of getting a particular roll comes down to absolute logic and math. One must consider the possible combinations of each of these two times by six sides and how many ways there are of reaching the one particular outcome you want. For example, with a combination of two dice there is only one means of creating a total of 2, i.e. 1 + 1, there are no other two sides that can add up to this total; equally 12 can only be achieved with one particular roll, 6 + 6 for the same reason. This means that in both of these cases there is a one in thirty-six (6×6) chance of getting that outcome. The odds vary therefore depending on the number of options there are for making that total. The most likely total to appear from a 2 dice roll is seven as there are six ways to create this sum: 1 + 6, 2 + 5, 3 + 4, 4 + 3, 5 + 2, and 6 + 1. Even though it appears that the results are doubled here, that it?s the same result just the other way round, these are the true statistics as each roll of each dice is an independent event, so 3 + 4, is not the same as 4 + 3.

In this way, you will see that the top casino players don?t do anything in a dice game randomly, they know exactly what the chances are of what they need being rolled and bet or play accordingly.
