How do you spell this word?

my c++ instructor (of all people) was talking about a monster from a dungeons and dragons game. he pronounced it something like “litch” but i cannot find it on google or searching through the list of d&d creatures on wikipedia. he also said that lord voldemort from harry potter was one (not sure if thats true or not).
ive been hearing this word for some time now, but i never knew exaclty what it meant. so what is it and/or how do you spell it?
